Colfax City Council member and business owner Brad Magg has announced that he is running for the Iowa House of Representatives’ seat for District 38, which includes northern and eastern Jasper County. In November 2024, the democrat lost to incumbent republican Jon Dunwell of Newton by 1,871 votes. At his candidacy launch party Thursday evening at the Grey Moon Public Market in Newton, Magg explained why he’s running again.

“Things at the state level are kind of falling apart. My classmates and friends are moving out of state because they want good public education for their kids, and they don’t want to worry about having the highest rate of cancer in the country. I think it’s important that someone steps up to help work on that. I am also a big believer in that we have to work together.”

Magg feels both political parties are so partisan now, that nothing is getting gone.

The Colfax Democrat has been a member of the Colfax City Council for the past 17 years, owns Goldie’s Ice Cream Shoppe in Prairie City, is co-owner of Spring City Pharmacy in Colfax, and runs three food stands at the Iowa State Fair every year.
