Several former Knoxville Athletes are currently playing and having success at the college level.
Former Panther Basketball Standout Landen Norris is playing for DMACC and is averaging six points per game for the Bears, who are 29-1 on the season. Norris’s high points game was 15 against NIACC on February 11th and he also has 48 assists. Norris and DMACC will start the postseason this afternoon against Western Iowa Tech.
Former Track and Field Standout Koby Higginbotham has already had a great amount of success in his freshman season at William Penn in Oskaloosa. In his first college indoor meet, Higginbotham qualified for the NAIA Nationals in the 60 meter hurdles tying a school record in :07.92 seconds. He also has earned a Heart of Iowa Track Athlete of the Week award. The NAIA Indoor Nationals are March 5th in Gainsville, Florida.
Two former Panther softball players are having success at their respective MIAA schools. Ashlyn Finarty is playing for Missouri Western State and has helped the Golden Griffins at the plate and in the pitching circle. Finarty holds a .250 batting average with 11 hits, six of those are home runs which leads the team and 14 RBI. Finarty also holds a 4-0 record in the circle. In 31 innings pitched she has struck out 27 batters and holds a 1.58 ERA. The Golden Griffins currently hold a 13-2 record heading into the Midwest College Classic in Shawnee, Kansas this weekend.
The other Panther Softball alumnus is Jadyn Streigle. A senior at Northwest Missouri State, Streigle has logged 37 innings in the pitching circle with 29 strikeouts, ten walks and a team leading ERA of 1.70. For her career Streigle has 278 strikeouts in 406 1/3 innings and has a 38-28 record. The 12-5 Bearcats are also at the Midwest College Classic this weekend.
