Newton Senior Mack Sims is headed to Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska this fall to play softball for the Bruins. She is the second member of the Bruins’ 2026-2027 recruiting class.

For the Cardinals, Sims has a .392 batting average, accumulating 19 home runs, 20 doubles, 10 triples, 71 RBIs, and 69 stolen bases. She is a two-time all-state and two-time all-district selection (2024, 2025) and a four-time Little Hawkeye All-Conference honoree (2022-25). Sims earned team MVP honors in 2025 and was a three-time offensive MVP from 2022-24. She’s also played summer softball for the Iowa Nationals the past three years.

Sims has also excelled as a hurdler for the Newton girls track and field team, qualifying three times for both the Drake Relays and the Iowa State Track Meet as part of the Cardinals’ shuttle hurdle relay team.

When entering Bellevue University this fall, Sims plans to major in Elementary Education.

“I thought about other things that I would try to do, and everything kind of circled back to being a teacher. I have a lot of different teachers that I would like to steal from their teaching styles.”

Academically, Sims has been named to the Honor Roll every quarter (13 times) and is a member of the National Honor Society.
