During a policy and planning work session on Tuesday, the Pella City Council will receive an update about a proposed partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a new dog park proposal.
According to a memo to council, the next step is to form a lease agreement with the Corps for a site identified between the parties, including the Pella Dog Park Association. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is providing three acres for phase one of the project, and is willing to provide maintenance services for the site. The non-profit association could provide up to $108,000 of the projected $195,000 cost. The City of Pella would be responsible for construction, owning, operating, and maintaining the proposed dog park itself.
Phase one of a proposed dog park near the North Tailwater Area at Lake Red Rock includes fencing, gates, a crushed stone pathway, three separate areas based on dog size, lighting, waste stations, a shelter house, dog washing station, and benches.
No formal action will be taken, but the Pella City Council will discuss next steps at their Tuesday meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. in the Pella Public Safety Complex.
