A road maintenance agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for Rock Creek State Park, and proposed new policies and procedures for Dust Control Application on gravel roads are the main items on the agenda for Tuesday’s Jasper County Board of Supervisors meeting.

The Iowa Department of Transportation proposes paying Jasper County $4,494 for routine maintenance of just over two lane miles of roads within Rock Creek State Park, from July 1st of this year through June 30th, 2027. Under the agreement, routine maintenance consists of snow and ice control, mowing, herbicide application, repair of guardrail and safety grates, and replacement of traffic control signs and pavement markings.

The proposed dust control policy would include the Jasper County Secondary Roads Department allowing pre-approved contractors only applying calcium chloride or lignin sulfonate. Each preapproved contractor would be required to provide the county a written list of customers and their address and length of treatment, and must collect a fee for road preparation in the amount of 16. 7¢ per linear foot of applied product. This fee would be collected by the pre-approved contractor and remitted to Jasper County upon the completion of the work.

Tuesday’s Jasper County Board of Supervisors meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Board Room on the second floor of the Jasper County Courthouse in Newton.
