Seven students from Newton High School and ten from the PCM School District are going to be competing at the Iowa High School Speech Association’s Southeast Iowa Individual State Speech Contest at Vinton-Shellsburg High School on Saturday, March 14th. The students achieved a 1 rating at the District competition held Saturday at the PCM Middle School and Elementary Building in Prairie City, earning them the right to advance to State.

Newton High School’s seven students advanced in eight performance categories. They include Mathias Bloom in After Dinner Speaking, Astrid Fairbairn in Prose, Michael Ferrari in Solo Improvisation, Ben Magana in Solo musical Theatre, Paxton Panada in Reviewing, Miles Soppe in Solo Musical Theatre, Hannah Templeman in Acting and Reviewing, 

The ten PCM students who will be competing in eleven different performance categories are as follows: Brighton Ingle – Prose and Poetry, Keira Stone – After Dinner Speaking and Storytelling, London Ludwick – Acting, Carter Dudley – Literature Program and Solo Musical Theatre, Jocelyn Burg – Acting and Musical Theatre, Gavin VanDonselaar – Radio News Announcing, Rylan Edgington – Radio News Announcing, Caleb Ingle – Solo Improvisation, Ian Vriezelaar – Solo Improvisation and Spontaneous Speaking, and Faith Buckley Bonham – Literature Program.
