Junior Rachel Kacmarynski took down multiple school records this winter to highlight a successful season for the Pella Christian girls basketball team.
Kacmarynski became just the second player in Eagles history to surpass 500 career rebounds, doing so with 17 in a 57-22 win over Oskaloosa on December 5th. The junior then took down the all-time career rebounding record in a 53-46 loss to Pella on February 6th. Rachel secured eight boards in that contest, giving her 692 rebounds at that point, which moved her past Allison Van Gorp’s 687 from the 2017-2018 through 2020-2021 seasons. Kacmarynski wasn’t finished there, piling up 58 boards over the Eagles’ final four games to finish the season with 293 rebounds. The junior’s season mark was also a new program best, passing Kristin De Ronde’s mark of 275 during the 2004-2005 season. In addition to setting the single-season record, Kacmarynski had at least 10 rebounds in 18 of Pella Christian’s 23 games, and posted eight games with 15 or more rebounds.
Kacmarynski and the Eagles ended the year with a 10-13 overall record, marking just the second time in the last seven seasons that the program recorded double digit victories.
