The owner of the group responsible for operating the Pella Municipal Airport was recently honored for his work in teaching others how to fly.

Shane Vande Voort has been awarded as the Iowa Certified Flight Instructor of the Year.

The award is presented by the Federal Aviation Administration’s FAAST Safety Team, and this is the second time that Vande Voort has received the award.

Vande Voort is now a potential candidate for the National Certified Flight Instructor of the Year. He has been the Pella airport manager since 1999. He owns and operates Classic Aviation, which provides flight instruction, aircraft maintenance, pilot service, and FBO services.
