One of Iowa’s best ever high school distance runners and the record holder of so many marks at Pella High School has made his college decision official.
Canaan Dunham will join the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes after graduating this spring. Dunham is joining a Division I program that placed in the top ten of the NCAA Cross Country championships in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
Dunham comes into his senior track season as a team and individual champion on both the oval and in cross country. Canaan was the 2023 state cross country champion and qualified for the Nike Cross Nationals this past fall. He was the anchor of the 4×800 state champions last spring at Drake Stadium and is a multiple time Drake Relays medalist.
Canaan opens his spring season next week at the Dickinson Relays at UNI and the IATC Indoor Championships at Iowa State University.
Hear from Dunham about his college signing on “Today’s Lely Radio Sports Page” on KNIA/KRLS.
***Please note: KNIA/KRLS will make all efforts to interview soon-to-be graduating athletes from Pella, Knoxville, Pella Christian, Indianola, Norwalk, and Newton as they sign letters of intent for college. As a station policy, we do not report on initial commitments by athletes to sure fair coverage, but will make all efforts to attend signing day ceremonies. Parents and athletes should have coaches and activities directors reach out directly to their school’s reporter about those signing day opportunities.
