A Marshalltown man caught with a pick-up truck that was stolen from a residence on Bolton Street in Kellogg has been sentenced to two consecutive two-year prison terms. Billy Bob James Versteegh pleaded guilty to aggravated misdemeanor charges of 3rd degree burglary of a vehicle and operating a vehicle without owners consent. A class D felony charge of 2nd degree criminal mischief and an aggravated misdemeanor charge of 3rd degree theft were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. Versteegh’s sentence, handed down on Tuesday by Associate District Court Judge Steven Holwerda, also includes two suspended $855 fines, and states his two prison terms totaling four years will run simultaneously with sentences for felony offenses in Marshall, Marion, and Clarke counties.
On November 2nd, 2024, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says surveillance cameras show Versteegh driving the stolen 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup. When the truck was recovered, the police report states damage to it exceeded its $7,000 value.
