Jasper County Sheriff Brad Shutts read to some preschoolers at the Sheriff’s Department earlier this week, as part of Read Across America Week. The March 2nd through the 6th celebration promoted reading and literacy nationwide through school events and activities.
Shutts read several books to the Loving Hands Early Care & Education students. The books included “Deputy Mater Saves The Day” and “Time to Call 911, What To Do In An Emergency.” The sheriff notes that the last book contained some important information for the preschoolers.
“It’s a good book. Talks about 9-1-1 and how it’s not a game to play and that it is serious. When is the right time to call, and so forth.”
Sheriff Shutts says the interaction also teaches the preschoolers not to be afraid of men and women in law enforcement uniforms. K9 Therapy dogs Poppy and Delta were also on hand for the book readings.
