seniors-7

The three seniors for the Knoxville Girls basketball Squad this year likely did not foresee the kind of season they were going to have. However, for two of them it has been a four year journey through not getting any playing time as freshmen to being the starters and important parts of the team during their senior seasons. Karalee Kennedy and Merissa Borwig did what they could and Coach Tracy Wilkins tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he appreciates the fact they stayed out all four years.

Wilkins: “When they started they were JV players and just fighting for minutes. Their second year, they were still on JV and still fighting for minutes, then by year three they started to get some playing time on varsity but this year they knew they were going to be the focal points of the team and they took it and ran with it.”

Borwig averaged 3.5 points per game and led the team in made three point shots with 15. Kennedy averaged 1.6 points per game and was 2nd on the team in rebounds with 82 and had 26 steals. The third senior, while not competing at Knoxville for four years, was Aiyanna Alvarado. She transferred from Twin Cedars after they cancelled their girls basketball program last season and did not field a team this year. She was welcomed with open arms by the Panthers and Wilkins ads she was able to be that back up point guard.
