The cost of renting a place to live is burdening four out of every ten renters in Jasper County, according to IMPACT Community Action Partnership. The non-profit’s CEO Anne Bacon says their poverty report for 2025 showed 42% of renters in Jasper County were spending more than one-third of their income on rent.

“Families that are spending more than 30% of their income on rent have no discretionary money, and no ability to do things beyond getting their most essential needs met. So that’s a fairly high number.”

The IMPACT Poverty Report for last year also states a family of one adult and two children in Jasper County needed an income of $48,547 to meet their essential needs. For 2025, the federal poverty level for a family of three was $26,650. For this year, the poverty level has increased to an income of $27,320.
