People who are 100% disabled and those over the age of 65 can qualify for an elderly and disabled property tax credit through the Marion County Treasurer’s Office.
The Iowa Legislature allows a property tax credit based on total household income for residents of Iowa that aged 65 and older, or age 18 and older and totally disabled. The income is based on last year’s income and the requirements change annually. The total household income for 2025 must be less than $26,895, and claimants can receive a maximum total tax credit up to $1000.
Homeowners age 70 or over that make more than total household income threshold may qualify for a credit that freezes property taxes as of the first year filing. Homeowners must continue to file this form with the Marion County Treasurer’s office every year to receive the credit going forward. Find the income guidelines, more information about the elderly/disabled tax credit, and a link to the form here.
