
The Newton girls track and field team earned two top ten finishes and placed in the top twenty in four other events at the A.D. Dickinson Relays in the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls on Tuesday. Athletes from just over 50 schools of all sizes participated.
The Cardinals’ 4×800 meter relay team of Harper Barton, Audrey Muckler, Alexis Sorensen, and Temple Barton finished eighth in 10:30.88, while Lauren Clarke’s time of 8.11 in the 60-meter dash was tenth fastest.
Tori White produced two top twenty performances for Newton, tying for thirteenth in the high jump at 4’ 10” and placing nineteenth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.82. Sorenson took 15th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.51. Clarke, Camryn Klein, Mack Sims, and Jazmyn Rivera finished eighteenth in the 4×200 meter relay in 1:52.76.
The next competition for the Newton girls track and field team will be Thursday’s IATC Championships in Ames.
