The Pella City Council will consider a contract to extend University Street east from 240th to 250th Place at their meeting on Tuesday.

A public hearing has been scheduled to review eight bids submitted for the estimated $5.22 million project. All but one of those submissions came in below the engineer’s projected cost.

Assuming approval, work will begin by early April to extend University Street east and Baseline Drive north to the new street to accommodate the new indoor recreation facility that’s under construction. Recreation Director Spencer Winzenried says progress is continuing on the facility slated for completion in 2027.

The extended streets should be ready for use by this winter. The Pella City Council meeting begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Pella Public Safety Complex.
