A Knoxville Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting was held for Kay’s Kupcakes on Friday.
The ribbon cutting was an opportunity for community members, family, employees, and chamber board members to gather and celebrate the cupcake shop’s new location. Kay’s Kupcakes moved into their own location at 303 E Main St. on March 15th of last year after being in a different building, which they later shared with Smash and Grab Burger Co. Kay’s offers a wide variety of speciality cupcakes, speciality cakes for all occasions, other bakery items sold daily, and a Thursday lunch special.
Owner Helen Wares started the business out of her home over 20 years ago and says she either had to move to a bigger location or stop altogether. Wares said her love for baking and passion started from her mother who is now 95-years-old and was in attendance at the ribbon cutting. Wares tells KNIA/KRLS that her new shop has exceeded her expectations.
“It’s very special to me. As some may know, I started out of my home 20 years ago and it just got to be where it was too big to do from home all the time so I had to make a decision, go bigger or stop and obviously I decided to go bigger and getting my own location here has just been above and beyond my expectations.”
