UPDATE: Several area roads have now been considered as “Travel Not Advised” by the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Interstate 80 is closing from Altoona to Iowa City.

As of 9:30 p.m. on Sunday 3/15/26, those include:
Highway 163 from west of Prairie City to Eddyville
Highway 92 from Sandyville to Oskaloosa
Highway 14 from Chariton to Newton
Highway 117 from Prairie City to Interstate 80

Most other area state and U.S. Highways are partially covered or completely covered by snow and ice.

Travel conditions are at their worst in rural, open areas, where blowing snow can reduce visibility to near zero.
