f-36-bridge

A new bridge on Jasper County Highway F-36 on the northwest edge of Newton will be funded with Federal money funneled through the Iowa Department of Transportation. The DOT will provide the Jasper County Highway Department with Federal Bridge Formula Program funds to replace the Highway F-36 bridge over Cherry Creek. Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch brought the federal-aid funding agreement to the county board of supervisors this week, and received their unanimous approval.

“We are looking at a $2 million dollar project basically. It’s in the November bid letting at this point. Probably an April 2027 construction start.”

The bridge taking Jasper County Highway F-36 over Cherry Creek is on the west edge of what’s also known as North 23rd Avenue West. Frietsch noted this bridge project may take place at the same time as the Iowa Department of Transportation is working on the full reconstruction of Iowa Highway 14, which is east of this bridge. That road project from north of Highway F-36, south to North 4th Avenue West, is scheduled to start this fall and end in late fall of 2027.
