With a larger number of athletes out this season, the Pella Christian girls soccer team is looking forward to what they will be able to achieve with more depth.

The Eagles enter the year with 36 girls on the roster, which is up from 21 girls last spring. Pella Christian is slated to compete 15 times over the course of eight weeks this season, and five of those weeks have multiple games. With a short season and many nights featuring varsity-junior varsity doubleheaders, head coach Matt Dowie says the growth in numbers will benefit the program throughout the year.

“It feels like there’s more games than practices once the season gets started. It’s so shrunk in terms of how long the season is. So, it will be really nice to have these numbers. Another aspect is we’re going to kind of split JV and varsity for the most part, and so it’ll be great to have girls that are focused on varsity and then that’s the only minutes they play throughout the week and the season, and not having to kind of run all of the girls for two games every time that we have a game.”

The Pella Christian girls soccer team begins the season on Friday, April 3rd with a 1 pm home, non-conference game against Albia.
