
Both Norwalk track and field programs are beginning their outdoor seasons today. The girls are competing at Simpson College, while the boys will travel to Johnston High School.
The Lady Warriors track and field team is competing in the Simpson High School Classic this afternoon. There will be a 14-team field that includes conference rivals Dallas-Center Grimes and Indianola, as well as familiar foes Carlisle, Knoxville, Urbandale, and Valley. Norwalk’s only result thus far this season is a ninth-place finish at the 4A IATC Girls Indoor Championships at Iowa State University on March 12th. This will be the first competition opportunity for the majority of the roster. Today’s events will begin at 3 p.m. at Buxton Stadium on the campus of Simpson College in Indianola.
The Warrior boys’ team will compete at the Johnston High School Boys Invitational this evening. The meet features an eight-school field that also includes Bondurant-Farrar, Des Moines North, Des Moines Roosevelt, Dowling Catholic, Johnston, North Polk, and Southeast Polk. Norwalk’s only result thus far this season is a third-place finish at the 4A IATC Boys Indoor Championships at Iowa State University on March 12th. In indoor competition, with many winter sport athletes having yet to join their respective teams, Norwalk senior Kaiden Kunze finished first in the state in the long jump (22-10.25) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.42), while junior Logan Atherton finished second in the state in the high jump (6-08.00). Today’s events begin at 4:15 p.m. at Johnston High School.
