The Newton girls track and field team captured second place at the Wartburg High School Invitation in Waverly on Tuesday night. The Cardinals competed against athletes from 36 other Class 3A teams, and collected nine top ten finishes.

Tori White was second in the high jump (4’-10”). Alexis Sorensen placed second in the 3000-meter run (11:07.27) while Audrey Muckler was third (11:30.47). Sorensen also claimed third place in the 1500-meter run (5:23.85), followed by Muckler in fourth (5:24.81). Ashlyn Karsten claimed fifth place in the long jump (15’-06.5”). Harper Barton was sixth in the 800-meter run (2:37.68), followed by Temple Barton in ninth (2:45.20). The Cardinals’ 4×800-meter relay with the Barton’s, Alivia Kingery, and Talia Friedman added a 7th place finish(11:02.67).

The next competition for the Newton girls track and field team will be the Colfax-Mingo High School Co-ed Early Bird Track Meet next Tuesday.
