A roster that has more than doubled in the offseason has the Knoxville Girls Golf Program excited for not only the present, but the future. 12 girls are out this season which is up from just five last year. That was the issue with Coach Barry Smith since some of the girls dual sported last spring with tennis. Now that girls tennis is a fall sport, Smith does not have that and some of the girls who did not go out due to tennis ,are now out this spring and that allows Smith to bring a full team to each meet.
Smith: “This year I’m going to have the chance to take a full roster to meets. I’m excited about that, we can score in a meet and we can build on that since we’re not dual-sports with tennis.”
The Panthers will again be led this season by senior Caelie Smith who recently signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her career at Grand View University. Also back this season and looking to play the full season is another senior Isleyn Prevo, who’s Fall was cut short due to injury and spent the winter rehabbing. New additions to the program include Kadince Wells Ayla Williams and Twin Cedars Student Khloe French, who joins the Panthers via a sharing agreement. Knoxville gets the season underway Tuesday along with the boys at the Five by 80 Golf and Country Club in the triangular against Clarke and West Central Valley.
