The Simpson baseball team split its Saturday doubleheader with the Coe Kohawks heard live on 94.3 KNIA, however the Storm did drop the rubber match in game two of the twin bill 8-3.

In the first game of the day, Junior Pitcher Charlie Thomas took the bump for Simpson and immediately received run support from his offense. In the first inning, Catcher Jacob Roberts got on base on the first pitch of the game by reaching on an fielding error. He was eventually driven in by Designated Hitter, Nate Cagley on an RBI Single.

Later in the third, Roberts came up for a second time in the game and belted a solo home run to left field to put the Storm ahead 2-0. In the very next inning, the Simpson bats erupted again. First Baseman Bryson Gibson got the momentum rolling by reaching on a fielding error followed by three base hits to extend the Storm lead to 4-0 after four. Meanwhile, Thomas pitched scoreless frame after another to keep the Coe bats at bay.

In the ninth, Shortstop Drew Carlson drove in Roberts with a base hit to score the fifth and final run for Simpson. Thomas would end his day with eight scoreless innings, eleven strikeouts and one walk to increase his record on the mound to 4-0.

The second game of the day got off to a rough start right away for the Simpson defense. The first four runners reached base for the Kohawks and eventually plated three runs in the inning. Simpson already in a hole, found runs here and there but were playing catch up the entire ballgame. Despite Trenten Kingery smashing a solo home run in the second inning it was not enough for the Storm to overcome the strong start from Coe. The Kohawks won the final game of the day 8-3 and the series two games out of three.

After the weekend, Simpson is 10-8 with a 1-2 American Rivers Conference record. The Storm return to action Tuesday in a home game against Nebraska Wesleyan.
