The Indianola Girls and Varsity Boys Track teams competed in two different competitions Monday, as the girls were at Waukee Northwest and the boys were at the Warren County Relays.
The Indian girls went up against some of the stiffest competition across the state that included two separate weather delays, as Indianola placed fifth scoring 29 team points. Some of the top finishers included two first place finishes. Junior Madison Grover won the Long Jump with a jump of 17-05.50. Secondly, Sam Gripp won the Shot Put with a throw of 43-05.25. The 4x400m relay team and the Distance Medley both were runner-ups. The Indians tacked a few third place finishes as well with Haley New in the Discus Throw, Amelia Paugh in the Long Jump and the 800 Sprint Medley Relay.
On the boys side, the Indians won the meet handily with a total of 249.5 points. Indianola had eight individual first place finishes in the 100m, 110m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles, 800m, 1600m, 3200m, Discus, and Long Jump. In the relays, Indianola grabbed five first place finishes with the 4×100, 4×200, 4×110 Shuttle Hurdle, 4×400, and 4x800m relays.
Both teams return to the track tomorrow as the Indianola boys will compete at home in the Indian Relays, and the girls head to Northview Middle School in Ankeny for the Hawkette Invite.
