A week of anticipation and preparation ends this morning for the Pella Christian girls basketball team, as the Lady Eagles hit the court at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines to face West Hancock in the Class 2A State Quarterfinals. Today’s contest will be the first time this postseason that Pella Christian will not be the “home” team on the scoreboard, and though the Lady Eagles’ will be wearing the maroon road jerseys for this game, they’ll still have something there that will make it feel like home – their fans.

Pella Christian girls head coach Kevin Van Maanen says the students, parents and other adults that have made up the Lady Eagles’ fan base have been great greatly appreciated all season.

“We always have great fans, and they always come out and travel. They support our boys team just as well as our girls team,” said Van Maanen. “I’m really happy about our fans, and I know they’ll be at the State Tournament again, cheering us on. I think that that’s a sign that our girls work hard and give them something to cheer about.”

Those fans will fill up Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines this morning to watch Pella Christian put its 21-3 overall record up against a West Hancock squad that is 25-0. You can hear live coverage of the game broadcast on 92.1 fm KRLS, starting at 9:40 a.m. this morning. Just a reminder, the game will not be available at kniakrls.com, due to Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Sports Network restrictions.
