There have been numerous reports of road buckling due to the heat throughout the county. As the high heat causes roads to expand, there becomes no place for the pavement to go. The pavement then breaks upward at the weakest spot of the road.
Tom Wadle, with the Secondary Roads Department, says that they’re working to take care of any spots that have buckled as they hear reports about it. If you know a spot where a road has buckled, you’re encouraged to report it at 641-828-2220. Wadle says that roads employees are starting their shifts at 6am now so they can stay out of the heat as much as possible.
