Knoxville Middle School students and teachers presented to the School Board on a ecology unit during their regular meeting last night. As we’ve told you here at kniakrls.com, a group of seventh grade science students take multiple field trips every year to learn more about the water cycle, how it gets cleaned, and what impact water and watersheds have on us. They also discussed how the unit crossed over to other parts of school – students used what they learned as inspiration for poetry and art that is submitted in local, state, and international contests.
High School Principal Kevin Crawford submitted to the Board materials relating to high school students taking college credit. He says that overall, juniors and seniors are combining to take around 1100 hours worth of college credit this year.
The School Board also approved the purchase and installation of a new scoreboard for the softball field. The softball club raised the money for the scoreboard, totaling $10,500. The school board then agreed to pay for installation, which cost $5900. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack told the Board that the softball club had already raised $25,000. The rest of the money will help renovate the concession stand area.
