Knoxville’s Coaches vs. Cancer 2014 is in the books, and it was another record-setter. Organizers Jim and Angie Uitermarkt say the preliminary total is about $55,000, and there are pledges yet to come in so that number could rise. The winner of the t-shirt quilt was Knoxville’s girls basketball manager Katie Utterback, and the honorees of the night were Melinda Moore and Deb Ellerman, both of Knoxville, and both are employed with Knoxville schools. Ellerman is in remission from breast cancer, while Moore will soon begin treatments for a mass on her brain that was discovered recently. The high school gym was packed, and the Panther girls were victorious over the Chariton Chargers. The boys were not as lucky, unfortunately, but all in all, organizers say, it was a very good day.
