Marion County Attorney Ed Bull tells KNIA KRLS News that Robert Lee Broughton, formerly of Harvey, pled guilty in open court this morning, to one count of being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm and one count of Carrying Weapons. Judge Terry Wilson accepted his plea and immediately sentenced the defendant to five years in prison on the Felon in Possession Charge and two years in prison on the Carrying Weapons charge. These sentences will run concurrently, for a total of 5 years of incarceration. Broughton was also ordered to make restitution to the State for all court fees. He further was ordered to provide a DNA Sample. Bull says “I wish to sincerely thank the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for their outstanding work on this case. Without their dedicated public service, our community would not be a safe as it is. I am also pleased with the outcome of this case. The defendant should not have possessed a firearm, he knew he wasn’t permitted to possess a firearm, and he did it anyway.”
