At the height of Sunday night’s thunderstorms and torrential rain, Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies, Iowa DNR and Corps Engineers responded to a boat that was stranded on a sandbar near Whitebreast campgrounds Sunday, with no injuries reported. Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat says this is a good reminder that boaters need too make sure their boat is in good working order before taking it out on the water and to get off the water when there is lightning or stormy conditions. He also says never to drink and operate machinery and to always have a cell phone when boating or camping.
