At approximately 2AM the Knoxville Fire Department was called to the Knoxville Rehabilitation Center at 606 North 7th Street, the location of the former Griffin Nursing and Rehab Center, in response to a report of the smell of smoke and water flowing from a ceiling.
Knoxville Fire Chief Jim Mitchell tells KNIA/KRLS News that a fan motor to an air handling unit had seized up creating an electrical burning odor, and that there was condensation dripping from a ceiling vent. The temperature at the time was 3 degrees, with a wind chill of -30. As a precaution, the Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department, Pleasantville Emergency Services, and Marion County Emergency Management were also dispatched to the scene immediately. The Knoxville Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies, Alliant Energy, and MidAmerican Energy also responded.
