The City of Knoxville is agreeing to help 3M with an expansion project that would allow the company to bring a new product line to their facility.
Knoxville City Manager Harold Stewart says the city council approved a tax abatement to allow 3M to get $2.2 million in tax credits. The council also agreed to an additional $72,000 as 20 percent of a local match needed for 3M to obtain a forgivable loan from the state.
The proposed expansion at 3M would retain 52 jobs from a product line that’s no longer going to be done out of the Knoxville facility, while adding 10 additional ones.
