State Senator Ken Rozenboom says the Iowa legislature is making some progress on education funding.

Last week, the House passed a bill that provides a 2% funding increase in Supplemental State Aid (SSA) and categorical funding for Fiscal Year 2017. On Wednesday, Senate Democrats rejected that legislation, standing behind a 4% increase.

Pella Schools Superintendent Greg Ebeling tells KNIA/KRLS News that many districts are hoping to have a number soon, and says many understand the state’s tighter budget situation.

Rozenboom says the matter now goes to conference committee to reconcile the differences. He says it’s hard to predict when that will happen, but at least the issue has been put on the table early in the session.
