A juvenile was charged and cited following a four vehicle crash earlier this month at the Highway 163 and Washington Street interchange in Pella.

The 15 year old female from Ottumwa was charged with eluding and released by the Pella Police Department, and was also previously cited for multiple traffic violations. On February 6th, witnesses told police the female driver was topping speeds of 90 MPH and then slamming on the brakes to slow down.

Pella Police Chief Robert Bokinsky tells KNIA/KRLS News the driver tried to flee onto Washington Street off of 163 at Mile Marker 40 after an attempt to stop her. Bokinsky says in a matter of moments, the operator sped up to nearly 60 MPH coming off of the exit ramp before slamming into the back of a vehicle, which hit another in a chain reaction.

The adult passenger and truck owner, identified as 18-year-old Nathaniel Van Steenwyk of Ottumwa, was cited for allowing an unlicensed driver to improperly operate a vehicle.
