Cory Frank with Marion County Public Health Environmental Services tells KNIA/KRLS News with spring coming and people wanting to get out with their pets it’s important that their rabies vaccinations are up to date.
Frank says that a vaccination costs just $25 and if an unvaccinated pet is bitten it must be quarantined by the county, which can cost the pet owner hundreds of dollars. Frank also wants people to be aware that one of the greatest risk factors for rabies in Marion County is bats. All animal bites should be reported to Public Health in order to help control rabies cases in the county.
