Freshman catcher Caitlyn Meyer of Newton hammered a three-run home run deep over the left-field fence to climax a dramatic seven-run inning as the Dutch knocked off Augustana 8-5 Saturday in St. Louis. Central then stumbled in the finale of its 10-day spring break trip with a mistake-filled 7-4 loss to Fontbonne .
Today’s scheduled games were cancelled due to bad weather, leaving Central 10-4 on its spring break trek to Panama City and Clermont, Florida. and St. Louis, Mo. The Dutch are 12-5 overall through the bulk of its demanding pre-Iowa Conference schedule.
After 14 games in three cities in nine days, the Dutch get a week off before attempting to open their home schedule next Saturday with a non-conference doubleheader against perennial NCAA Division III tourney contender Wisconsin.-Eau Claire at 1 p.m. at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex field. Central then has another week off before opening the rugged Iowa Conference slate against 2009 NCAA national runner-up Coe, tabbed as the league co-favorite this spring.
