Big things are expected this year out of the offense of the Central College football team.
The excitement stems from the return of three players who took snaps at quarterback – Riley Gray, Nate Boland and Kohle Helle – plus record-setting wide receiver Sam Markham and dynamic running back Pat Gray.
But the Dutch are also into the second year under offensive coordinator Ryan Maiuri. Head coach Jeff McMartin says that Maiuri grew tremendously in his first year at Central.
“We had him doing a lot of the play calling, even during the JV games, just to continue to give him more experience doing that. It’s something that the longer you do it and the more you do it, the better you get at it. I thought he really got a lot better at it. He’s so far ahead of where we were last year in his preparation and what he wants to do. He’s doing what we want him to do.”
Central opens the 2016 season with a west coast road trip to Spoakane, Washington on Labor Day weekend, where they’ll take on Whitworth College.
