A day after a pair of painful losses to Loras College, the Central College baseball team was able to bounce back yesterday, routing the Duhawks 16-4 in seven innings in Dubuque to avoid a series sweep. Senior pitcher Doug Eisenman allowed three earned runs in the win, improving to 2-2 this season.
At the plate, Central seniors Blake Smith, Jason Hassman and Ben Tressel backed up Eisenman’s performance. Smith had four hits, two RBIs and two runs scored; Hassman recorded three hits with five RBIs and scored twice; while Tressel scored three runs and drove in another on two hits and a walk.
With the win, Central climbed to 14-8 in the Iowa Conference and clinched a berth in the Iowa Conference tournament. The Dutch are one win away from tying the season-record for victories of 26, which was set in 2006. They close out the season against Buena Vista University on Wednesday.
