Nobody was seriously injured when a student in a crosswalk was hit by another student driving a car Tuesday morning next to Pella High School.

Pella Police Lt. Paul Haase says the driver was turning left and didn’t see the other girl. Haase says both are fortunate to be okay, and reminds everyone on the road that as the weather warms up, it’s especially important to pay extra attention.

“Accidents do happen, but we just really want to push the importance of being aware when going through those intersections,” he says. “With the warmer weather, there is a lot of pedestrian traffic, a lot morebicycle traffic, people walking to school as opposed to being dropped off.”

Haase says the police department has officers stationed and patrolling daily at the Pella School District’s main campus during the morning pick-up and afternoon drop-off times.
