The top handcrafted fly fishing flies in the state were honored in the Fly Tying Competition, prior to the start of the 2019 Iowa State Fair. In the Expert Division, Larry Niday of Knoxville took home 1st place in both the Open and Streamer categories while also finishing 2nd in the Dry Fly category. Mark McConnell of Pella also finished 3rd in the Adult Division, Streamer category. The winning flies were on display throughout the entirety of the fair. 

Participants from across the area also recently competed in the Iowa State Regional Team Championship divisions of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament held at the Iowa State Fair.  Steve Hatch of Knoxville, Bert Logsdon of Pleasantville, Randy Clark of Monroe and Deb Wiese of Roland represented South Central Iowa and took home 4th place in the tournament.
