Despite a slowdown in the late fall into winter due to hospitals reaching capacity and reducing transfers, 2021 was a record-breaking year for Pella Community Ambulance. Chief Greg Higginbotham says at one point the non-profit was on pace for 2,000 calls, but that tally slowed after October topped the 200 mark. Higginbotham says with several new housing developments bringing in dozens of new residents and the expansion of the Pella Cottages nearing completion, he anticipates this year could break the 2,000-call mark and make the service busier than ever.
