Marion County Development is participating in a new Quarterly Business Pulse Survey, with the intent to address key issues and challenges for businesses in the Red Rock area in a more timely manner.

The purpose of the program is to identify trends within the competition for talent, business profitability, expansion and operational challenges. Information each quarter will be provided to participating businesses and posted on the county’s website.

Twenty-two businesses participated in the survey conducted during the second quarter in 2024. These businesses represented 1,750 jobs within Marion County and 32% of those organizations have plans for expansion within the next year. Participating businesses reported adding 75 jobs from January-June in 2024, while only eliminating four positions over the same time period.

The businesses report having 56 current openings and 36% rated their current financial position as excellent. Sixty-eight percent of businesses participating reported that the quarter was profitable while 23% operated at break-even and 9% operated at a loss. Projections for profitability in the third quarter in 2024 showed results similar to those reported in the second quarter. Businesses reported that their top three operational challenges were hiring and retaining qualified staff (55%), reaching customers and growing sales (27%), and utilizing technology (5%).
