Indianola Municipal Utilities is hosting a groundbreaking of their state-of-the-art solar facility later this month, part of their Pledge to Carbon Neutrality through Solar Energy project.

IMU General Manager Chris Desplanques tells KNIA News the project is the result of a partnership with Omaha-based Sandhills Energy, and provides a large benefit to Indianola with little risk.

“We’ve got very little in the way of responsibility for this. They’re handling all the maintenance, all the building, all the construction, any of those costs if there is damage, wind, hail, whatever else. So our community gets a great benefit, clean energy, 4.1-megawatts of clean energy, without having to front a lot of cash. The agreement we’ve locked in saves about 20% over our current wholesale costs, and annual increases are limited to a half-percent over the next 25 years.”

The groundbreaking ceremony will be September 25th at 10am at the Indianola Water Resource Recovery Facility. Learn more on today’s Let’s Talk Indianola.
