
The Norwalk boys bowlers compete at the state tournament in Waterloo today while the Warrior boys basketball team opens the postseason tonight against Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson.
Norwalk qualified for the Class 2A Boys State Bowling Team Tournament last week by placing second in the State Qualifying Meet at Newton’s Cardinal Lanes. They will be one of eight teams in the 2A field at Waterloo’s Cadillac XBC. Competition begins at 3:00 p.m. This marks the Warriors’ first state meet appearance as a team since 2010.
Norwalk junior Tanner Housley also qualified for the 2A Individual State Bowling Tournament and will compete in that state meet on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.
The Norwalk boys basketball team hosts Thomas Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. tonight in the first round of the Class 4A, Substate 1 tournament. The Warriors are the No. 3 seed in the bracket with an overall record of 10-11. The Yellow Jackets are the No. 6 seed at 3-18.
Norwalk defeated TJ 69-52 in last year’s substate semifinals in Council Bluffs. They share two common opponents this season. Norwalk defeated Lewis Central 62-46 in December and lost to Johnston 59-41 in February. The Yellow Jackets lost to LC 72-36 in December and were defeated by Johnston 78-40 in February.
Tonight’s game will be streamed live on kniakrls.com (KNIA3), starting with pregame coverage at 6:45. The winner travels to Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln to take on the ninth-ranked and No. 2 seeded Lynx on Friday night.
