A new phase of construction inside the new clubhouse at Newton’s Westwood Golf Course is almost ready to get underway. Newton Parks Operations Superintendent Nick Cummins says drywall installation is nearly finished and will be ready for painting soon. According to Cummins, the polishing of the floors at the clubhouse is also nearing completion.
One of the next major projects for the 100’ x 60’ building is construction of the bar area. A private fundraising group for the clubhouse obtained $75,000 of private money for the bar. At the February 17th Newton City Council meeting, city council members unanimously voted to move forward with construction of the bar, up to that $75,000 figure, by the company that built the clubhouse building, Ball Team, LLC of Urbandale.
The new Westwood Golf Course Clubhouse Project began back on February 26th of last year, when demolition of the prior clubhouse began. The new clubhouse is expected to open before the end of May.
