A man from western Colorado has been sentenced to five years in prison for leading Newton Police on a high speed chase on February 10th of this year. Newton Police were called to a domestic disturbance around 11:30 that night on East 3rd Street South. As officers arrived, 34-year-old Eric Thompson of Silt, Colorado reportedly accelerated out of the driveway on a motorcycle. The criminal complaint filed with the court states Thompson was pursued by officers at high speeds until he wrecked the motorcycle on the southwest side of town. Newton Police say the Colorado man then successfully ran from the scene, and wasn’t taken into custody until later the next day.

Thompson pleaded guilty to eluding over 25 mph above the speed limit, a class D felony. In addition to the five year prison term, District Associate Judge Steven Holwerda fined Thompson $1,025, and set a restitution hearing for April 15th.
