This coming week is one of two annual clean-up weeks at the two cemeteries operated by the city of Newton. Spring clean-up at Union and Memorial Park Cemeteries happens the first full week of April, while a fall clean-up is held the first full week of October. During these weeks, city cemetery staff removes all decorations that have been placed on burial spaces. Decorations anyone wants to keep should be removed prior to the start of clean-up week. City staff will remove and dispose of any decorations left at the start of clean-up week that are not permanently attached to a headstone or the foundation. When clean-up week is over, burial decorations can be displayed until the next clean-up week.
