The Simpson softball team split a doubleheader with Wartburg on Saturday, falling in game one 8-2 but winning game two 11-3 in six innings heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Storm put up a run early in game one on an Ashlyn Steen triple and an RBI sacrifice fly by Lexi Ehlers, but the Knights answered with a three-run homerun in the second inning to lead 3-1. That score would hold until the sixth inning when Simpson took advantage of four walks to score a run, but were unable to get a clutch hit and trailed 3-2 heading into the seventh. Wartburg then scored five runs in the seventh to take a commanding lead and the Storm fell. Kylee Tucker took the loss in the circle.

Game two saw the Storm score a pair of runs in each of the first and second innings getting RBIs from Makenzie James,Katie Shaner, and Megan Heidelbauer. Wartburg earned runs back in the fourth scoring a pair, but Storm pitcher Emma Lafave stranded the bases load, and Simpson scored two more with RBI hits from Heidelbauer and Lexi Ehlers, then added a run in the fifth off of a Steen single, then three more in the sixth with a solo homerun from Ehlers and an RBI double by Shaner. Lafave got the win in the circle.

Ehlers drove in three runs on the day, while Steen went 4-7 on the day reaching base eight times and driving in two and scoring two runs.

Simpson is now 28-4 overall and 9-3 in American Rivers Conference play. They will next play Tuesday at Luther.
