The need for extra classrooms at Newton’s Thomas Jefferson Elementary School is allowing the school district to improve security there as well. Newton School Superintendent Tom Messenger says the entrance to the school will be much more secure.
“There will be a secure vestibule coming into it. You won’t just enter into the hallway. You will be channeled through the office, and it will be a much more secure entryway. Plus, you won’t have to wonder where to go if you have never been in the building. You will be entering the office and there will be people there to help you right away.”
An addition and renovations to Thomas Jefferson Elementary are part of the Newton School District’s transition from four to two elementary buildings. The day after the school year ends May 30th, workers will begin renovations inside the school. Classes have been held in the building while construction of the addition has taken place.
